Since yesterday, rumors have been circulating about the possible dismissal of part of Media Molecule’s staff. Sad news quickly confirmed by the British studio. Thus, nearly 20 employees should be laid off soon, reducing the studio’s workforce from 135 to 115. A figure to be taken with a grain of salt, however, since the official press release does not specify the exact number of employees impacted.
Media Molecule also chooses not to use the term dismissal, preferring that of consultation process for team members. A watered-down communication which nevertheless changes nothing about the purpose of this restructuring.
The studio also discusses the reasons which may have motivated this decision and notably discusses the strategic changes resulting from the end of updates of
Dreams. And if Media Molecule seems not to want to completely abandon its title on the sidelines, its attention is now focused on a new project.
