Between Meghan Markle and Harry and the rest of the Firm, the break seems final. Possible consequence of bickering within the royal family, King Charles III could decide to deprive them of their title of Duke and Duchess of Sussex. If so, what would their official title be?

Since 2020 and the Megxit, Meghan and Harry have decided to step back from their official duties and live their lives apart from the royal family. Settled in California, the couple launched their ArcheWell foundation and forged several juicy partnerships, notably with Netflix.

When they have left the family, the Queen has banned the couple from using their Sussex titles commercially, although they still technically have them, as well as the HRH (Royal Highness) titles. However, some critics have called for the couple to be stripped of those titles as well, following the release of their controversial series on Netflix and ahead of Prince Harry’s already much-maligned memoir, Spare.

Harry’s very harsh words towards William and Charles III have prompted some observers to call for the couple to lose their official titles of ‘duke’ and ‘duchess’. According to Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine, Meghan Markle could be known as princess henry if she was no longer Duchess of Sussex, report our colleagues from OKAY.

Speaking on the podcast Royal Beat, the reporter explained that royal protocol dictates that Harry’s wife could take her husband’s first name. “I don’t think they will be stripped of their titles, because if they lose their titles, Harry is still a blood prince and Meghan instead of being the Duchess of Sussex, [serait] Princess Henry…”

And to add, “The Queen gave them the titles, let them keep them – they’re going to be ‘H’ and ‘M’ anyway. I think the best thing to do is just leave them, ignore them and let them go on to live their life”.
