Memscap: obtaining a new innovation project








(Boursier.com) — Memscap continues to increase its technological lead with the Stegma program… The group thus announces the obtaining of a new major innovation project from the Norwegian Research Council.

Stegma is a new 3-year research project running until 2026.

This project aims to develop a cutting-edge technology platform for pressure sensor chip stacking. Through this project and by integrating its pressure chips into a wider variety of medical products, Memscap’s ultimate goal is to expand its product portfolio and increase the size of its addressable markets. For example, among the various targeted applications, respirators for newborns require high precision over a narrow and low pressure measurement range due to the low flow rate of air exhaled by infants. The technology developed during Stegma could meet this need. Likewise, more compact and more integrated chips improve the competitiveness of Memscap’s solutions in the invasive blood pressure and filtration market segments but also pave the way for the next generation of implantable devices.

Memscap and Sintef Digital MiNaLab, Norway’s leading MEMS research institute, continue their close collaboration to develop innovative world-class technologies and commercialize new products in high-value market segments. Within Stegma, Memscap and Sintef will leverage cutting-edge knowledge and technologies developed particularly for the aerospace industry during previous research programs to expand Memscap’s medical product portfolio and manufacturing capabilities.

As part of a grant of 11 million NOK (approximately 1 million euros) allocated to Memscap and the financing of all R&D costs of Sintef, Stegma’s research activities cover the design of stacks of miniature MEMS chips, and the development of new processes Manufacturing. The targeted high-end pressure sensors cover the differential measuring ranges of 100 mBar, 500 mBar and 1 Bar as well as the absolute measuring range of 1 Bar.

The project’s success criteria include confirmation of low-cost production capacity for chips as well as validation of the performance of high-end medical pressure sensors via the development of the test benches necessary for their measurements.
