Angela Merkel’s 16-year chancellorship is drawing to a close. At the big tattoo she was officially adopted on Thursday – and one moment in particular apparently touched the still-chancellor very much.

Millions of viewers: inside watched on Wednesday evening as Chancellor Angela Merkel was solemnly honored at the Great Zapfenstreich. She wanted three songs from the Bundeswehr orchestra for the occasion – and even if the Chancellor looked neutral most of the time, one song seemed particularly close to her.

Unusual selection of songs caused problems for the Bundeswehr orchestra in advance

In addition to the hymn “Great God, we praise you”, the Chancellor also chose the pieces “For me it should rain red roses” by Hildegard Knef and “You forgot the color film” by old punk Nina Hagen. The latter in particular brought Bundeswehr conductor and Lieutenant Colonel Reinhard Kiauka into trouble. The video clearly shows that this effort was worth it.
