MG3: the hybrid city car that is about to break prices

MG Motor is gradually establishing itself as an important player in the European market, thanks to the very attractive prices of its electric cars produced in China. However, it would have been a shame for the manufacturer to deprive itself of the market for thermal cars, which in volume terms remain the majority.

The MG range in France currently includes two thermal cars: the EHS plug-in hybrid SUV and the gasoline version of the ZS SUV. The latter is one of the rare models that can compete with the excellent quality/price ratio of the Dacia Duster.

But MG does not want to stop there and plans to market the new generation of its versatile MG3 city car in our region. It will be presented on February 26 at the Geneva Motor Show. The manufacturer is already publishing a few teasers, including a video, which allows you to observe the car from different angles.

A photo of the model without camouflage has already leaked, and was shared by user The_Osco on the CocheSpias forum. The style is not particularly modern, but it should appeal to as many people as possible.

Photos of prototypes also provide a glimpse of what would be the interior of the future MG3. Here again, we shouldn’t expect great originality, but that’s not what the MG3 is expected to do anyway.

A future rival to the Renault Clio or the Dacia Sandero?

Where MG risks hitting hard is with the prices of its new MG3. We already know that it should offer a hybrid version, without further details on its technology. To reduce costs, it could be a mild hybrid gasoline engine, which would avoid or at least limit its penalty in France.

The current generation of the particularly aging MG3 is sold from £14,320 in the United Kingdom, the equivalent of €16,665. It remains to be seen whether the new generation of the model will retain a similar price, which would place it between a Dacia Sandero, sold in France from €11,990, and a Renault Clio, which starts at €18,700.
