Like last year, Michael Fassbender started at Le Mans. After the actor crashed, the race was over for his team.

Michael Fassbender (46) retired from the Le Mans 24-hour race after a crash. The actor and amateur racing driver crashed his Porsche 911 into a barrier on Sunday. Fassbender was unharmed in the accident. He drove the car back into the pits, but the car could not be repaired.

“We are appalled! The 911 car is no longer taking part in the 24-hour race at Le Mans,” wrote Proton Competition on twitter . “A few minutes before the end of his mission, Michael Fassbender lost control of the car and crashed into the crash barrier.”

Michael Fassbender drove for the Proton Competition team together with the Austrian Richard Lietz (39) and the Estonian Martin Rump (27). The accident happened minutes before Fassbender was able to finish his six-hour race shift.

As in the previous year, Fassbender drove for Proton Competition

Fassbender had already realized his dream last year of driving the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans. The German-Irish star trained for it for three years. The native of Heidelberg competed for Proton Competition in 2022 as well. Together with Australian Matt Campbell (28) and Canadian Zacharie Robichon (31), he finished 51st. Last year he only crashed in qualifying.

Michael Fassbender is not the first Hollywood star to start at Le Mans. Paul Newman (1925-2008) drove in 1979, “Grey’s Anatomy” star Patrick Dempsey (57) was there four times.
