(sda) After Sofia Goggia in the downhill, an Italian won for the second time within 24 hours. Elena Curtoni was nine hundredths ahead of Austria’s Tamara Tippler and triumphed for the first time in Super-G.
In the sixth Super-G of the season, an Italian won for the fifth time. As in the downhill, Lara Gut-Behrami is the only one who was able to interrupt the Italian triumph once. On the slope on which she won one of her two World Championship titles in Super-G a year ago and two of her 17 World Cup victories in her strongest discipline, the Ticino native was one of the beaten this time. After the 9th place in the downhill, which was affected by the wind, Gut-Behrami had to settle for 13th place. The second best Swiss was Corinne Suter in fifth place, followed by Jasmine Flury in 11th place.
Sofia Goggia, who won two Super-Gs and four of the five downhills of the winter, once again caused a stir with a fall. A slip caused the speed dominator from Bergamo to fall spectacularly in a passage with many light changes. It is not yet known whether Goggia has seriously injured himself. The Olympic favorite drove to the finish herself after the crash, but appeared badly drawn and complained of pain in her left knee. She was taken to a nearby hospital for further tests.
Meanwhile, the sun was shining for Michelle Gisin in the Dolomites on Sunday. For the third time this winter, the 28-year-old all-rounder made it onto the podium in third place, and always in a different discipline – something that could not be expected after the serious illness with glandular fever last summer, especially since Gisin is still there have to be economical with their forces.
“It’s a fantastic day and a sensational week with three of the best races of the year. This podium shows that I’m back and that I’m back to my old level in the speed disciplines,” said Gisin in the SRF interview, looking ahead to the upcoming slalom at Kronplatz on Tuesday. She still doesn’t have the energy to go through the full season like in previous years, but now has the confidence to attack again, says Gisin.
