Microhotels: The best providers for metropolises

Microhotels are a good choice in expensive metropolises: they attract people with hip mini rooms, good locations and affordable prices.

Want to stay in a smartly designed double room in the middle of London, New York or Paris and still not spend a lot of money? This is possible in micro-hotels, which are cheap for one reason: the rooms are small (or tiny).

The smart thing about it is that you usually only save on expensive square meters, but not on design and comfort. The micro-hotels, which are often operated by luxury chains such as Marriott or Starwood, are usually creatively furnished by well-known designers and often offer luxuries such as fine bed linen and the latest technology (which then also takes care of check-in).

Microhotels do not require bedtime treats

In the “Pod Hotels” in New York and Washington DC sleep solo travelers in six square meters, while other hotels accommodate two people in seven square meters. Many beds are placed directly in front of the panoramic window and offer magnificent views of the city skyline.

At the Dutch hotel chain “CitizenM” the bed is also under the window – but the room is only as wide as the window, namely two meters. Microhotels are made for millennials: The operators sometimes aggressively advertise that there are no traditional hotel amenities in the microhotels: “Absolutely no trouser presses, bellhops, towel swans and bedtime treats”

Some mini rooms also impress with their ingenuity: when the beds can be transformed into sofas or the bedside tables into chairs at the touch of a button. Space-consuming cupboards are usually avoided, luggage often finds space in fixtures under the bed, there are lots of hooks and tables can be folded against the wall. In the New York hotel of the British chain “Yotels” a robot arm even helps to stow luggage in the compartments under the ceiling.

The public rooms of micro-hotels are also often more modern than usual: they are not called “lobby” or “breakfast room,” but rather “living rooms,” where you can make yourself comfortable on sofas or eat, chat and work at long tables.
