Microsoft is reducing its portfolio of Surface models. A particularly unusual representative will no longer receive updates from now on.

The Microsoft Surface Duo, released in September 2020, will not receive any further software updates, Android upgrades or security patches in the future. Microsoft officially ended support on September 10, 2023, the company announced.

The Microsoft Surface Duo was released with Android 10 and came with the promise of three years of Android updates and OS upgrades. In January 2022 it received the update to Android 11 and in October 2022 the upgrade to Android 12L, which was the last Android upgrade for the Microsoft Surface Duo.

Surface Duo is history, Duo 2 is coming soon

The successor Microsoft Surface Duo 2, which was released in October 2021 with Android 11, was also released with the promise of three years of security updates and OS upgrades.

Accordingly, we will not receive any further Android upgrades and security updates from October 2024. So far, Microsoft has only released an update to Android 12L; Surface Duo 2 fans are still waiting for Android 13. The Surface Duo isn’t the only Android phone to stop receiving updates this month.
