For some time, Microsoft has been working on future hybrid computers that will complement the Surface family.

And the American giant would have recently made some readjustments with regard to the future generation of Surface Go.

What’s new on the side of future Microsoft tablets?

Just a few days ago, we shared with you some information about the Surface Laptop Go 3. While it is likely to be more expensive than usual, it will adopt a brand new processor, have a larger storage space and will separate from its model with 4 GB of RAM. No big changes on the horizon in terms of ergonomics and functionality, but small changes that should be enough to justify the arrival of a new iteration on the market. But unfortunately, plans may well have changed regarding the “Surface Go 4”.

Microsoft could, in fact, have revised its ambitions downwards with its future 2-in-1 tablet, to the point of having abandoned the idea of powering it with an ARM processor.

Microsoft Surface Go: name and processor change?

According to information from Windows Central relayed by Neowin, we learn that the Redmond company initially planned to equip the next generation of Surface Go with an ARM Qualcomm 7c chipset. But, according to more recent sources, this chip was eventually abandoned in favor of the new entry-level Intel N200. As a reminder, the Surface Go 3, released in September 2021, was equipped with Intel Pentium Gold 6500Y or Core i3-10100Y processors. However, it would seem that the project to offer a tablet powered by an ARM chip is only postponed, not canceled.

Our colleagues from Windows Central also tell us that this new tablet is likely not to be called Surface Go 4, but Surface Go +. The name change, as well as the abandonment of an ARM processor (Intel usually providing better software support for companies) may lead us to believe that it will be intended above all for professionals. This new model should be completely similar to its predecessor when it comes to design, but could still be easier to repair. The Surface Go+ is expected to be announced at the Microsoft Surface event next fall.

Microsoft Surface Go 2

  • Windows 10 and its millions of software available
  • Excellent finishes
  • A good autonomy

Launched for the first time in 2017, the Surface Go has just been replaced by a new version with a slightly revised design and a (slightly) more muscular technical sheet. Soberly named Surface Go 2, this new version of the tablet under Windows 10 offers a very interesting office and ultraportable experience… and with a very reasonable entry price for the Surface range.

With a starting price set at 459 euros in France, the Surface Go 2 is the most affordable Windows tablet in Microsoft’s current catalog.

One of the great strengths of the Surface Go is its beautiful Full HD+ “PixelSense” IPS screen (1920 by 1280 pixels) for a pixel density of 220 dpi, thanks to a diagonal limited to 10.5 inches only. . The Surface Go 2 screen is bright and well contrasted, it also offers convincing color reproduction for watching movies on the move.

If its technical sheet remains modest, the Surface Go 2 can claim excellent assembly quality, resulting from Microsoft’s know-how for its Surface range (usually rather high-end oriented), as well as an extremely efficient size in shift.

On the autonomy side, the results are also positive, with a tablet capable of holding a good ten hours in surfing, office automation or video streaming. It’s enough to work a whole day without having to carry it with you. The connection, for its part very limited, is limited on the other hand to a USB-C port (not Thunderbolt 3), a microSD card reader and a Jack 3.5 output to connect headphones.

Note that Microsoft allows you to opt for a more powerful model, equipped with an eighth generation Intel Core m3 processor. Its small power surplus compared to the Pentium Golf 4425Y is not necessarily essential for the basic use targeted by the product. Especially since the price here passes the bar of 700 euros. The good equipment / price ratio of the Surface Go then takes a hit.
