LONDON (Reuters) – Microsoft has announced plans to create a new artificial intelligence (AI) center in London, focused on product development and research.

This unit will be led by Mustafa Suleyman, co-founder of Google DeepMind, whom Microsoft hired last month.

While the number of jobs that will be created is not known, the announcement builds on Microsoft’s recent commitment to invest 2.5 billion pounds (2.9 billion euros) in infrastructure data centers and in improving AI skills in Britain.

The move also represents a victory for Britain, which has sought to boost its credentials as a tech superpower since hosting the first global AI security summit in November.
