Microsoft might let you install Windows 11 on an incompatible PC, but there’s a but

Microsoft is testing the display of a watermark on PCs running Windows 11 that do not have minimum requirements.

At the end of last year, Microsoft rolled out the first major update to its operating system in six years: Windows 11. The launch was not easy, however, with the OS publisher indicating that it would only be available for PCs with a compatible processor, supporting UEFI and TPM 2.0.

If there is a method to install Windows 11 on an incompatible PC, it is not advisable to use it. And to make it even clearer to users, Microsoft has an idea. As reported by the American site The Verge, the display of Windows 11 on computers that do not take advantage of the minimum configuration can now be done, but with a warning. On the lower right corner of the screen is indeed a watermarked message: “System requirements not met”that is “insufficient system configuration”.

However, this is a display that only affects Windows 11 trial versions or prereleases, since this watermark is not currently integrated into the stable version of Windows 11. However, it could be, for Microsoft, a way to allow the installation of its operating system more openly on computers that will not be able to take full advantage of it. By displaying this indication, the Redmond firm could thus allow users to install Windows 11 on their machine, even if their PC does not support TPM 2.0, with however a warning message to explain that the configuration is insufficient. for a full OS experience.

A feature still in the testing stage

As The Verge reports, this watermark display is reminiscent of the indication of unactivated Windows systems.

Separately, it should be noted that Microsoft regularly experiments with new functions for its operating system through the Insider Preview channels. This does not necessarily mean that they will appear on the final version of the operating system in the following weeks or months.
