Microsoft: towards the end of Xbox consoles?

Microsoft continues to make headlines in recent weeks. After having formalized the acquisition ofActivision Blizzard Kingit laid off nearly 2,000 employees in its division Gaming. But above all, rumors suggest that the manufacturer would port some of its big games to competing consoles, namely the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch (or its successor).

Titles like Hi-Fi Rush, Starfield, Gears of War or the much awaited Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle would not be exclusive to PC and Xbox Series X|S, a blow to fans who feel betrayed. Phil Spencer, head of Xboxannounced that he will publicly detail the future strategy of Microsoft Gaming next week, but internally, he has obviously already raised the subject. As reported Shannon Liao, Phil Spencer allegedly told employees that Xbox would not stop building consoles and that the hardware would remain a major axis of the firm’s strategy, with several models.

Ultimately, this is not surprising. Remember, last September, Microsoft was the victim of a huge leakrevealing in particular improved versions of the Xbox Series X|S and even the next generation of consoles, planned for 2028. Consoles oriented towards dematerialized games and cloud gamingbut consoles nonetheless.

What about exclusive games? Well, Phil Spencer obviously hasn’t commented on anything internallywe will have to wait for the public declaration next week, but Xbox has always had the ambition to offer its games on as many platforms as possible, the Game Pass Ultimate allows you to play streaming on a bunch of devices outside the ecosystem Xbox, wear some AAA on PS5 and Switch would be a logical continuation. The market is evolving, Sony already brings its games to PC, manufacturers and publishers must amortize production costs as best they can. However, selling consoles without exclusive games will be a big challenge.

While waiting to discover the new strategy of Xbox in the coming days you can subscribe to the Game Pass Ultimate from €13.99 per month on Amazon, Cdiscount And there Fnac.
