Since taking office, he has shown a clear line in the direction of Beijing, improved relations with the EU, and carried out threatening maneuvers in the South China Sea.
Now he is confronted with the rocket hail in the Middle East, with civilians and children killed on the Israeli and Palestinian sides – while he has not even appointed a US ambassador to Israel. Biden has a rather distant relationship with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
A more moderate candidate like Jair Lapid would be closer to him for peace efforts. But even after the fourth election within two years, the inner-Israeli power struggle has not yet been fought. Netanyahu failed to form a government around ten days ago. Thanks to a hard hand, he is gaining popularity. That will make a ceasefire difficult.
