Miley Cyrus’ parents divorced around two years ago – now mother Tish Cyrus is talking about the background to the love affair
It was a big surprise when the mother of Miley Cyrus, 31, filed for divorce almost two years ago. Tish Cyrus, 56, and Billy Ray Cyrus, 62, have been married for 28 years and have five children. Grammy winner Miley, as well as Braison Cyrus, 29, and Noah Cyrus, 24. Billy Ray also adopted Tish’s two children from a previous relationship, Brandi Cyrus, 36, and Trace Cyrus, 34.
Nevertheless, in the end there was no happy ending for the two and their love fell apart. Now the pop star’s mother speaks on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast about the background and “disrespectful behavior” in the marriage.
Miley Cyrus: Mama Tish unpacks
This is how the mother of five talks about her relationship with country singer Billy Ray: “The situation hasn’t been good for a long time. I think I stayed so long because I was afraid of being alone.” After all, the two of them have been married for almost 30 years and have a family that, of course, is not something you throw away lightly. “I met him when I was 23 or 24 years old. I was growing up and he was such a big part of it,” Tish said. However, there was “a lot of disrespect of all kinds” between the couple. So she finally took the plunge.
The period afterwards was anything but easy for Tish and in the podcast she describes her “complete psychological breakdown” before the divorce. “I was literally scared. I didn’t eat or sleep for 30 days.” In addition, her mother had died shortly beforehand in August 2020 – a turning point that she was always terribly afraid of. Then came the separation from Billy Ray and so she had to say goodbye to two constants in her life in a short space of time.
Tish Cyrus: “I could just breathe”
And this courage despite the great fear of being alone after so many years of marriage was worth it. “Suddenly the weight of the world was lifted from my shoulders, I could just breathe, smoke weed in the garden and go swimming naked in my pool.”
Today, Tish Cyrus is happily married again and loves “Prison Break” star Dominic Purcell, 53.
