In response, the artillery fired at targets in Lebanon. According to media reports, the sirens wailed at times in the Israeli communities along the border. There were therefore no injuries or damage. The UN peacekeeping mission Unifil announced an investigation and urged everyone involved to exercise restraint.
Israeli army officials said that based on initial findings, they assume that Palestinians may have fired the rockets from Lebanon. This happened against the background of the unstable situation in the country and the current Muslim festival of sacrifice Eid al-Adha. Lebanese security circles also suspect, according to their own statements, that a militant Palestinian group fired the rockets.
Israel Defense Minister Benny Gantz wrote on Twitter in the morning: “The state of Lebanon is responsible for the rockets that were fired tonight because it allows terrorists to be active on its territory.” Israel will not allow the social, political and economic crisis in Lebanon to become a security threat to Israel. “I call on the international community to restore stability in Lebanon.”
At the beginning of July, Gantz offered humanitarian aid to the neighboring country. At the same time, the Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab urged the international community to save the country from the abyss in the grave economic crisis.
Israel and Lebanon are officially at war. There are always tensions at the border. The Lebanese Shiite militia Hezbollah, which is closely allied with Iran, sees Israel as an archenemy.
