A particularly sturdy mini-PC with an amazing solution to further inflate the graphic part.
Accustomed to compact PCs, Minisforum announced last year the imminent arrival of a rather special machine. This B550 now seems complete and the manufacturer has distributed an official press release.
Ryzen 7 4700G or Ryzen 7 5700G
As its name suggests without too much ambiguity, the Minisforum B550 is a PC built around the AMD B550 chipset. However, its promoter is considering two versions: the first based on the Ryzen 7 4700G CPU and a second, even more powerful, based on the Ryzen 7 5700G.
Both CPUs take advantage of the fact that the socket has not changed between these two generations at AMD. It is therefore an AM4 and if it is possible to change the CPU, the most energy-consuming models from AMD are not supported: the 5800X, 5900X and 5950X.
To complete, the motherboard set up by Minisforum accepts a maximum of 64 GB of RAM via two DDR4 ports and includes two M.2 slots for 2280 SSDs. Depending on the CPU selected, PCIe 4.0 is on the menu and a component AMD RZ608 brings Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2.
A not-so-discreet graphics card
If the Ryzen G mentioned above integrate an interesting graphics solution, Minisforum thought of the fact that some supported CPUs are completely lacking. An extension dock has thus been imagined so that a dedicated graphics card can be used.

The dock is easily connected to the mini-PC and it is then possible to add a power supply and the dedicated graphics card. Minisforum does not offer a bundle grouping together the entire configuration with power supply and graphics card.

Minisforum ends its announcement by mentioning the rich connectivity of its PC (2x HDMI, 1x DisplayPort, 4x USB-A 3.2, 1x USB-C 3.2, 1x RJ45 2.5GbE and 2x audio jack) as well as its minimal size: 20.86 x 24.09 x 12.81 centimeters for 1.15 kilograms.
Finally, Miniforums points out that the two versions of its B550 come in four variants each (barebone, 16 GB RAM / 256 GB SSD, 16 GB RAM / 512 GB SSD and 32 GB / 512 GB SSD) with prices between 559 and 749 euros for the PC based on 5700G and between 469 and 669 euros for the one based on 4700G.
