Probably more feared than expected, the live action series adaptation of the manga / anime One Piece unveiled its first trailer at Netflix’s Tudum 2023 event.

Very few people were convinced by the live adaptations of Death Note, Fullmetal Alchemistor cowboy bebop. However, Netflix persists and signs, since its series adaptation in live action of the manga / anime One Piece is almost there. The streaming service was also ready to unveil the first trailer this weekend, before the release set for August 31. The first season will consist of eight episodes and should cover the first eleven volumes of the manga.
Shot in English, the series is therefore inspired by the massive and popular work of Eiichirō Oda. Launched in 1997, this manga (the most sold in the world, just that) follows the young Luffy, a boy whose body has the properties of rubber. Accompanied by his crew, our hero wants to find the treasure that gives his name to the work, in order to become the king of the pirates.
A good solution to set foot in One Piece ?
The heavy task of playing Luffy falls to Iñaki Godoy (The Querida del Centauro). He will be accompanied by Emily Rudd (Nami), Mackenyu Arata (Zoro), Jacob Gibson (Usopp) or even Taz Skylar (Sanji). On the creative side, Matt Owens (Luke Cage) and Steven Maeda (Lost) are the two men to have tried this risky bet.
And if you prefer to discover One Piece in anime (good luck, there are more than 1,000 episodes), currently Crunchyroll and ADN are offering some of them. Before Netflix recovered the rights to accompany the series live as had been the case for cowboy bebop ? The most impatient can already find it on the Japanese version of the service.
