MoDem deputies want to move towards more social justice

The MoDem has made a series of proposals to the government on the state budget, in particular for more “social justice” and finding answers to the housing crisis, declared Monday the president of the group in the National Assembly Jean- Paul Mattei.

“We made 32 proposals,” announced the leader of the MoDem deputies, members of the presidential camp with Renaissance and Horizons. The deputy for Pyrnes-Atlantiques spoke alongside the Minister of Public Accounts Thomas Cazenave, invited to participate in a workshop during the MoDem parliamentary days in Vienne.

If Franois Bayrou’s party has not publicly revealed its proposals, Mr. Mattei mentioned “four main axes”, citing firstly “social justice”, with the question of income tax and the taxation of capital taxation.

He fought against the advice of the executive a year ago to have a tax on superdividends adopted, and must soon present a report on wealth taxation. “We will be responsible, we are not looking to pull punches,” he said.

The 32 proposals “will all be examined by Bercy services”, replied Thomas Cazenave, while reaffirming the need to “reduce public deficits”, and tackle both the financial debt and the ecological debt of France.

“We think that there is a difference between the profits that remain in the company and those that leave the company,” he underlined, calling for “reflecting on some signs that could show a desire for solidarity” .

In front of journalists, he notably discussed reflections on the scale of income tax and possible indexation to inflation, for a certain average income bracket for example.

He also insisted on “fiscal responsibility” and “business development”.

Another “axis” of proposals concerns housing, announced the group president, who hopes for a “bill” from the government to respond to the crisis.

“It is not a few proposals or small measures on Airbnb and others that will solve the problem,” he insisted, proposing for example a “targeted tax to reward virtuous elected officials who do important work” to allow people to find accommodation.

“This is an overall policy. Be careful not to suggest that a few tax measures will solve all the problems,” warned the minister.
