Moisturizing hair masks: 6 homemade recipes

Hair needs hydration all year round to appear shinier and healthier. For that, it is necessary to make them care. And if you don't want to put the price on branded products, here are our recipes for natural masks to make at home in two steps.

Why do you need to hydrate your hair?

A hair that is lacking in hydration will become dry. It will be rough to the touch, but also dull, so it won't look very good. In order for it to regain its beauty, it needs to be hydrated. And no, water alone is not enough, the hair fiber needs a supply of hydrating agents combined with a fatty substance, which will retain hydration. But it's not just dry hair that needs to be hydrated. Theoretically, all hair types need it, because in addition to giving the hair shine, hydration will strengthen the hair fiber and the hair will then be better protected from free radicals and external aggressions.

But be careful not to confuse hydration and nutrition. They are two completely different things. If we relate this to our human needs, hydration comes from drinking water, and nutrition is from eating food. For the hair – and the skin – it's the same principle. Hair that is lacking in hydration will be porous, that is, its scales will be open and with moisture in the air, they will tend to swell and therefore to frizz. On the other hand, a malnourished hair will have more tendency to break and to split. And unfortunately, it is possible to combine both hair problems.

As a prevention, it is better to limit the use of heating devices, such as the hair dryer, straightening irons or curling irons which will dehydrate the hair fiber, because the heat opens the scales of the hair and therefore makes them porous. But if the damage is already done, it is still possible to repair it by doing hair care, such as masks. So we reveal six natural mask recipes to choose from according to your hair type and to redo at home.
