The operation is organized for the first time in Mont-de-Marsan by Basket Landes, in partnership with the Women’s Basketball League and the national association Rules Elementary. The goal is to fight against menstrual insecurity, which affects many women: students, women in precarious work, homeless women. “We are delighted to participate in this operation organized by the League. 2 million women victims of menstrual poverty
Each year, the Women’s League puts forward a cause. This year, it’s the fight against menstrual poverty. The feminine hygiene product collection operation started at the start of the 2021-2022 basketball season. This Sunday, January 16, the South West derby will be the sixth stage (12 in total). To carry out this mission, the League has relied on the know-how of the association Rules Elementary, created in Paris in 2015.
The founder, Tara Heuzé-Sarmini, had discovered this solidarity operation in England where she was studying. She duplicated it in France to “facilitate access to feminine hygiene products, break the taboo of menstruation”, explains Laury Gaube, director of communication and awareness. “Since 2015, we have collected 10 million products which have benefited 130,000 women and supported 3,000 collections throughout the territory. It is estimated that two million women in France are victims of menstrual precariousness,” continues Laury Gaube.
