Montenegro was targeted by a computer attack “sophisticated”. The computer systems of several institutions have thus been infected, including that of the Ministry of Finance, while the National Security Agency (ANB) is concerned about essential infrastructure linked in particular to the supply of water and electricity. This situation prompted this Balkan country, a member of NATO, to ask for help from its allies.
France responded to this call. “The French government responds positively to the request of the authorities of Montenegro and makes available the National Agency for the Security of Information Systems (Anssi) to carry out a mission of support and assistance in the detection, analysis and cybersecurity remediation”communicated the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Catherine Colonna, and the Minister Delegate in charge of the Digital Transition and Telecommunications, Jean-Noël Barrot.
Montenegro accuses Russia
On August 22, the government of Montenegro had reported a first series of cyberattacks for which it has “succeeded in avoiding any damage”. Russia has clearly been named as the initiator of these cyberattacks. “Coordinated Russian services are behind the cyberattackthe ANB told the media. This type of attack was perpetrated for the first time in Montenegro, and has been prepared for a long time.”
On March 7, after the country joined the sanctions imposed by the European Union against Moscow, Russia added Montenegro to a list of“Unfriendly States”, accusing him of acting against her. Since the start of the conflict in Ukraine, several large-scale cyberattacks have been attributed to Russia, which has always defended itself against them.
