An increasingly cumbersome Russian shareholder. The billionaire Alexei Mordashov, the largest shareholder of the German travel giant TUI with 34% of the capital, poses a problem up to the highest level of the German state. Presented as the richest man in Russia, with a fortune approaching 30 billion dollars according to Forbes, the businessman is on the blacklist of personalities considered by Brussels to be close to Putin. In addition to his investment in TUI, Alexei Mordachov owns the Russian steel group Severstal.
Since 1er March, he is targeted by European sanctions against the Russian oligarchs: all his assets are frozen and he is banned from staying in the European Union. A few days ago, the Italian authorities even seized one of his properties (valued at more than 15 million dollars) in Sardinia. In early March, they got their hands on a yacht.
