Netflix is currently struggling with considerable difficulties. But the Primus isn’t giving up and that’s why starting today (Friday, July 22nd) you can watch Netflix’s most expensive self-produced film to date. Incidentally, two outstanding action directors who had hitherto let it rip at Marvel were brought in for the staging.
With a budget of $200 million, The Gray Man is by far the most expensive film ever made Netflix previously produced. For the money there’s also a lot of star power – in front of and behind the camera. On the Two proven filmmakers, Anthony and Joe Russo, take the director’s chair. As a reminder, we have them to thank for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and of course, Avengers: Endgame.

For quite a few Marvel fans, the best films from the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) to date. Financially a complete success and responsible for several billion US dollars in revenue. The Russo brothers are taking a break from the comic world and are trying their hand at a spy and action thriller with “The Gray Man” (watch directly on Netflix). However, if you think about it, her first Marvel film (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier”) was basically more of a political and action thriller.

But the new work also shines in front of the camera with a star cast. Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas and even indie actor Billy Bob Thornton are on board. And what’s the point? In one sentence: A CIA agent reveals too much and is then hounded by his own colleagues. Dead or alive? The Agency prefers it cold, very cold.

Even before Netflix customers got to see the film, there was a so-called limited theatrical release from July 15th. Translated: The film only runs in a few cinemas in order to qualify for any film awards. The general public can now watch the film as part of a normal Netflix subscription. Is the movie worth it? Can’t say at the moment. Since the film only starts today, there’s no real rating on IMDb or Rotten Tomatoes yet. But of course the expectations are extremely high. The stakes are high for both Netflix and the Russo brothers.
