Motion of censure: how the RN trapped the LRs by voting with the Nupes

“It’s not very serious”

By doing so, Marine Le Pen aims to make Les Républicains (LR) look like allies of Emmanuel Macron. LR found himself in a position to bring down the government. It lacked precisely 50 votes for the motion of the Nupes to be a majority. The Republicans have 62 MPs. The political coup carried out Monday by Marine Le Pen is formidable. She succeeded in placing the right in support of the executive.

Nevertheless, the LR defends itself from this somewhat unfortunate position: “The government will be forced to multiply the 49.3. If we have fun filing motions of censure every week, two per week, three per week. will not go very far. It is not very serious. We are clearly opponents of Emmanuel Macron. But that does not mean that after only three and a half months after the legislative elections, we are going to add more mess to this country”, explains Olivier Marleix, president of the group at the National Assembly.

“The opposition yes, the mess no!”

By this positioning, LR claims to be a party of government. “The opposition yes, the shit no!”, Can we read this morning on a visual released by the party and on which we can see Marine Le Pen and Jean-Luc Mélenchon side by side. The other explanation which could explain the refusal of the Republicans to vote for this motion is the fear of a dissolution and therefore of new legislative elections which could lead to a loss of the number of seats for the right.
