The relay transition between the PCIe 4.0 and PCIe 5.0 generations of SSD
becomes clearer each day a little more.

At the end of last week, Phison took advantage of CES 2022 in Las Vegas to unveil its SSD plans and, in particular, its new PCIe Gen 5 controller, the PS5026-E26.

10 Gb / s and above

There was then no question of any partner, but we suspected that things would not take long to settle. MSI is thus the first to lift the veil on its partnership with Phison.

A new model of Spatium – the manufacturer’s high-end SSDs – was thus presented. This model is simply called “Spatium” and takes the form of a PCI Express 5.0 x4 card based on the famous controller.

MSI is still stingy with details and hardly gives any details as to the performance to be expected from its product apart from a terse good ” 10 Gb / s and above “. Of course, there is no question of bringing forward an availability date or pricing.
