Frame

The performance of a mouse is not always in play on embedded technologiesbut also on the ergonomic aspect which will determine the comfort of use of the product.

Shape and grip

At first glance, the mouse seems imposing and above all terribly linear. Like a cobblestone that would be difficult to handle. However, it is during use that the mouse reveals its full potential. We are surprised to find our place easily on it, and this, whatever the size of the hand. Although it has no particular curve or shape, it is simply pleasant to hold.

We can however note that, if the use in “Palm and Claw grip” is facilitated, the GM41 will be more difficult to handle with a Fingertip type grip. Activating the clicks under Omron switches still allows an effective click on the entire button and not just at the tip.

If the coating of the mouse is matte black plastic with chamfered finishes on the clicks, we also see the addition of rubber with slightly pyramidal shapes on the sides to improve grip. The whole offers a comfortable device to use.

Buttons

With an elongated shape, chamfered edges and equipped with Omron switches, the clicks of the GM41 Lightweight V2 are as efficient as they are easy to use. We notify a dry and reactive click for an audible feedback without it being disturbing.

The GM41 Lightweight V2 is satisfied with a satisfactory set of only six buttons that can be activated. If we ignore the clicks, which we just talked about, and the wheel, we are left with the buttons on the side of the mouse. These are made of shiny black plastic, tapered and following the curve of the device. We note that the rear button, which is easier to reach than the front one depending on the grip used, offers a different auditory feedback since it is slightly more serious. This allows you to instantly know the click used without the need for visual control. The difference is not noticeable, however, and is in no way a hindrance to use.

Scroll wheel

It is located at the front of the device and will ask for a good mouse support in order to be able to use it. This is, moreover, one of the points which prevents the use of the GM41 in Figertip since your fingers will have trouble reaching it. For the rest, the wheel is quite small while being equipped with the same rubber coating as the sides of the mouse, very pleasant to the touch. Its use is just as precise as it is flexible with very slight auditory feedback.

Sensor

As you know from the time we write about all of the new products from rampant manufacturers, mouse sensors are getting harder and harder to test. If at the beginning there was a noticeable difference in the use of the product, now it is much more a war of DPI and smoothing. MSI, already well established in the world of video games, offers its users mice equipped with Pixart sensors, a benchmark in the industry. The GM41 promises ease of use and play with a maximum DPI of 16,000 with adjustment levels of 100. It is also possible to adjust up to 5 different profiles from the Dragon Center software and change them via the button located under the mouse.

To continue on the lower part of the mouse, it has chamfered PTFE pads to optimize sliding, provided you also use a suitable mouse pad. Furthermore, we remind you that optical sensors should not be used on reflective surfaces or glass, otherwise performance will be affected. Finally, the buttons and openings that can be seen under the mouse are not a hindrance to its use, nor even to the sliding of the device.

MSI Center, the new software

To overcome the problems of the old software, while leaving the dragon universe which sticks to the skin of the manufacturer, it is MSI Center, a brand new software that makes its appearance. Available on the Microsoft Store, it has the advantage of being only a download medium. So you choose only the options you need and it installs them at the moment. Very simple and much more intuitive, it will be useful in many applications, without cluttering up your computer unnecessarily. For the rest, everything coincides with the habits of the brand in terms of available configurations.

RGB areas

The mouse being quite sober, it only has an RGB rendering on the MSI logo located under the palm. The latter changes color with DPI changes and slowly flashes red when your device reaches a certain battery threshold. Simple, but effective, this RGB rendering will not appeal to those who want a flamboyant device of colors and light effects.
