MSI comes out with the Claw, its first portable console

MSI took advantage of CES to unveil its new gaming products. Among them, the Claw, the manufacturer’s first portable console. An intriguing machine which has the particularity of working with an Intel Core Ultra processor and not with a Ryzen Z1 as we are used to seeing from the competition. Enough to revolutionize the format?

Portable PCs/consoles are all the rage. After the Steam Deck, the Asus ROG Ally and the Lenovo Legion Go, it’s MSI’s turn to draw with the Claw. The manufacturer took advantage of CES to unveil its very first portable console on Windows.

The Claw does not differ from its competitors in terms of design. We still have a console which is in the form of a screen surrounded by a controller. It is equipped a 7-inch touchscreen in full HD with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. MSI does not specify whether it is an IPS LCD or OLED panel, however, but the first option seems the most likely. In reality, it is inside the chassis that MSI wants to differentiate itself from the others.

MSI makes the Claw the first portable console with an Intel processor

While Asus and Lenovo had chosen an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor for their console, MSI opts for an Intel Core Ultra (model not specified) with an Intel Arc eGPU. An interesting bet, especially since the machine relies on Intel XeSS to improve its performance, a Super Sampling technology similar to what Nvidia offers with its DLSS. MSI also promises an ultra-efficient cooling system as well as two hours of battery life in “extreme gaming conditions” thanks to the 53 Whr battery. A clear improvement over existing consoles. Data that we will verify in due course during our test, of course. At the moment, the Claw has no price or release date.

MSI took advantage of the American show to present a host of new PCs. Of particular note is the announcement of 18-inch versions of already existing models: the Titan 18 HX, Raider 18 HX and Stealth 18 AI Studio. All three have an 18-inch mini-LED panel in 4K and with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. They also do not yet have a price or release date.
