MSI Immerse GH50 Wireless review: our full review –

The MSI Immerse GH50 Wireless gaming headset is positioned as a relatively complete mid-range model. Without having a Bluetooth connection, it has all the connectivity necessary to work with all PCs and consoles on the market.

Playing on the complete and transportable aspect of its product, MSI had the good idea of providing it with a carrying case while allowing it to fold to limit its bulk. The microphone is also detachable, like most headsets of this type.

The Taiwanese brand also highlights the performance of its headphones, with a wireless connection without latency, 50 mm transducers and up to 22 hours of battery life. All in a headset offered at the very attractive recommended price of 100 euros.

MSI Immerse GH50 Wireless Design and ergonomics

The construction doesn’t seem to differ between the GH50 Wireless and its wired big brother. The headset gives pride of place to plastic and features the usual colors of the brand’s peripherals with a consistent mix of black and anthracite gray. Visually, the GH50 Wireless hits the mark, although the few shiny inserts and the excess plastic give it a little “entry level“.

The headband, the interior part of which is the only metal part visible on this helmet, is covered with foam which would have benefited from being more generous and more padded. If we compare it to other references that have passed through our hands, the imitation leather that surrounds it seems “empty“. However, once the helmet is installed on the head, no particular discomfort is felt.

It is thanks to the sliding earpiece supports that the amplitude of the headband can be adjusted. The latter is sufficient to accommodate the largest skulls. The adjustment is also made easier by the vertical pivot of the pinna which helps to place them correctly around the ears. As mentioned in the introduction, the earpieces can also be folded, but not rotated 90°. Damage.

MSI has equipped the earpieces of its Immerse GH50 Wireless with generous foam. Although it still slightly improves the overall comfort of the headset, which is also helped by its 330g weight, it tends to generate wrinkling and rubbing noises when you move your head. A problem which slightly spoils the overall positive experience in terms of ergonomics.

All controls are grouped on the edge of the left earcup. The traditional volume adjustment wheel is accompanied by a too discreet mute button for the microphone. The latter does not offer enough relief and no audio feedback is triggered when it is activated. It can also be easily confused with the power button, positioned right next to it.

This headset also accommodates the USB-C connector as well as the slot for the removable microphone. Taking the form of an imposing memory stick, it is positioned correctly at mouth level. However, it lacks a windshield, which could have an impact on the quality of the recording. Finally, the right earpiece is equipped with a 3.5 mm jack connector for analog and passive operation.

MSI Immerse GH50 Wireless Wide compatibility and decent battery life

MSI provides all the accessories necessary for the connectivity of the GH50 Wireless. In addition to the USB dongle for the wireless connection, there is a USB C to USB A cable for power, as well as a USB A to USB C adapter. Finally, a braided jack cable is also provided for devices equipped with this sheet. Thus, thanks to these varied accessories, the GH50 Wireless can be used with practically all devices available on the market.

PlayStation and Switch consoles will also benefit from the wireless connection. The Xbox will have to make do with the jack cable.

The wireless connection proved to be very efficient during our test, thanks to imperceptible latency and satisfactory range. We experienced no interruptions, even when moving to another room.

However, endurance is not the best asset of the Immerse GH50 Wireless. MSI announces up to 22 hours on a single charge, a value that we were able to verify during these few weeks of testing. Without being bad, this autonomy remains below what many gaming headsets offer in 2023.

MSI Immerse GH50 Wireless Good sound performance

Apart from its wireless operation, this new GH50 brings another novelty of “size» since it is equipped with 50 mm transducers, where its big brother was content with “only» 40mm. When listening, it delivers a very decent sound performance and ultimately quite classic for a gaming headset.

The restitution is rather balanced and warm, with a nice emphasis on low frequencies, typical of gaming headsets. Fortunately, Nahimic – which we will talk about a little later – will allow you to adjust the sound reproduction according to the user’s preferences.

Without activating a specific equalizer, the GH50 Wireless is comfortable in most situations. It benefits from a sufficiently wide soundstage which facilitates immersion. Likewise, its stereophony is convincing and allows good localization of sounds. Its surround functionality is surprisingly effective and allows you to widen the soundstage a little more while taking advantage of the spatialization effects a little better.

Ensuring you can fully immerse yourself in the soundscapes of the games, the headset is also comfortable listening to music where no style will really frighten it. Clearly, the GH50 Wireless does not suffer from any major faults and is positioned as an all-purpose headset.

The detachable microphone is in line with the rest of the headset. Without being exceptional, it manages to capture the voice clearly and without too much compression, despite its wireless operation. It is also relatively sensitive to ambient noise, but this can be attenuated using the Nahimic driver.

MSI Immerse GH50 Wireless An MSI headset that works with a SteelSeries driver?

When we first connected the dongle to our PC, we were asked to install the traditional MSI Center. However, once this was done, no interface allowing us to personalize the headset was presented to us. And for good reason, the GH50 Wireless is actually compatible with the SteelSeries Nahimic solution and therefore requires the installation of the SteelSeries GG driver.

The interface of the Nahimic solution is very clear and among the most pleasant to use at the moment. This is divided into two tabs, the first of which is dedicated to configuring the sound reproduction of the headset. Four presets are offered, each with five activatable (and configurable) options. The user can thus act on the surround sound and stabilization of the overall volume.

Without providing a complete equalizer, Nahimic offers to act independently on vocals (midrange), bass and treble by adjusting their respective level from -12 to +12 dB. Profiles for music, movies, communications and gaming are available and pre-configured. Although this makes it much easier to get to grips with the settings, we regret that it is impossible to customize the sound reproduction of the headset more finely.

The microphone is also entitled to its dedicated tab which is limited here to two distinct options: the suppression of static ambient noise as well as a voice stabilization module (compressor). Here again, the settings are relatively limited, childish in their use and understanding.
