Listen up: we’ll hear that in January
Every month we present musical innovations and insider tips to you here. This time Antonia Kubas, Placebo, JXN, Joshua Bassett, Stromae.
Stromae: L’enfer
There was a small sensation when Stromae answered a question from the presenter in an interview on French television last Sunday with a song – with his new single “L’enfer” (Engl. Hell), in which he describes some of the darkest phases brutally honest about his life around depression. Applause for so much courage of the exceptional artist!
Antonia Kubas: A Piece of Heaven
Singer-songwriter Antonia Kubas is a thoroughbred artist and thoroughbred mother: she combines these two jobs in her new single, which is a very personal declaration of love to her little daughter. In it she sings about unconditional love – and gives us a wonderfully emotional pop catchy tune in dreary January.
JXN: Love Sux
“Love Sux” is an attempt at writing a love song, explains JXN — more specifically, a song about love troubles. And after all, we all know them. Nevertheless, the sound is not heavy at all, but catchy and relaxed. Special eye-catcher: The music video is a nostalgic return to the 2D style of the previous game world.
Joshua Bassett: Crisis
The singer-songwriter and ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ actor has dealt with inner demons with his new songs. He hopes his story can help others get through their lows, not just in a symbolic sense, but by providing concrete help: “100 percent of the proceeds from my new single ‘Crisis’ will go to mental health organizations donated,” confirms Bassett. Exemplary!
Placebo: Try Better Next Time
New attempt, well done: After a long absence, Placebo are back with new music and tie in with the usual rocky-emotional sounds. Lyrically, the current single couldn’t be more fitting: it celebrates the end of the world as we know it and focuses on a new beginning, a celebration of what is yet to come.
