What to remember from MWC 2022

From February 28 to March 3, the main world event in the field of telecommunications and networks, the Mobile World Congress (MWC), took place in Barcelona. The main topics discussed were 5G, cloud, artificial intelligence (AI), fintech, internet of things (IoT) and emerging technologies.

Bottom Line: Private 5G networks will take several more years to develop at scale; Azure, Google Cloud and AWS land on 5G; a change of mentality is necessary among the professionals of the networks, to direct the latter towards the professionals; the boundaries between cloud computing and networks are blurring; and the future of work will depend on a quality network infrastructure.

The daily life of a ransomware group

The Conti Group supported the Russian invasion of Ukraine last month. In response, an individual leaked months of internal group discussions, providing inside information about the day-to-day operations of one of the most prolific ransomware groups on the planet. And what this information mostly reveals is that the ransomware group operates like a traditional business.

The researchers were able to identify a range of different functions within the organization, from the HR team in charge of recruiting new employees, to malware coders, testers, “cryptographers”, to system administrators who put set up the attack infrastructure, through the group’s offensive team, which aims to turn a breach into a complete capture of the targeted network, and the personnel in charge of negotiations, which tries to reach an agreement with the victims. We also learn that some “employees” do not even know that they work for a cybercriminal group.

Shenzhen reconfigured

Faced with the resurgence of the Covid-19 epidemic, the megalopolis of Shenzhen, a high place of technology which is home to the factories of giants such as Huawei and Tencent, is facing a reconfinement.

As a result of these restrictive measures, Foxconn, a supplier in particular to Apple, had suspended its activities. Nevertheless, the Chinese giant announced the partial reopening of its factories a few hours ago, thanks to the implementation of a “closed loop” management process at all of its sites.

The Key Figure: 64% of Companies Optimize Cloud Costs

According to the recent State of the Cloud report for 2022 from Flexera, 64% of enterprises want to focus on optimizing the use of cloud resources.

Companies are indeed faced with the skyrocketing cost of the cloud. There’s even a word for the emerging process to deal with it: “FinOps.” A contraction of the terms “finance” and “operation”, it aims to optimize the costs of cloud computing.

Practical: how to improve your productivity with the Galaxy S22 Ultra

Samsung’s latest addition, with its S Pen, is a good work tool, among other things. Here are 5 tips to improve your productivity on this device:

  • configure the S Pen to make the best use of it;
  • take notes with the stylus even when the screen is locked;
  • configure and use Air Command hotkeys;
  • disable adaptive refresh rate;
  • configure the link with Windows.

The editorial’s zoom: Internet Archive, the web’s time machine

Internet Archive is on a mission to archive the internet over time. The Library of Alexandria in web version, in a way.

Since 2001, the organization has implemented the “wayback machine” tool. As its name suggests, it allows you to return to a given site at a given time. What to travel in time without moving from your sofa!
