The government will finally launch, on 1er January, its online platform called “My electric leasing”, which will allow French people to benefit from an electric car for 100 euros per month, subject to income conditions.

The promise made by Emmanuel Macron to lease an electric vehicle at 100 euros per month dates back to last year. It will become reality, with activation from Monday 1er January 2024 of the My Electric Leasing platform, intended to help the most modest French households switch to electric, by exempting them from paying an initial deposit. 20,000 to 25,000 electric vehicles should be affected next year. Conditions, amount, practical aspects and contract, Clubic provides a complete overview of the assistance to which you will be eligible.

Under what conditions can you benefit from leasing an electric car?

Four essential conditions must be met to qualify for the State system:

  • You must be of legal age and domiciled in France.
  • Your reference tax income per unit must be less than or equal to 15,400 euros. The tax notice taken into account is that of year N-1, for income from year N-2.
  • You must not have taken advantage of the leasing system less than 3 years ago.
  • The journey between your home and your place of work must be more than 15 kilometers OR you must travel more than 8,000 kilometers per year with your personal vehicle, as part of your work.

As you have understood, the first condition to benefit from the system is to be a heavy rider.

How much aid?

Rental assistance is possible for a period of at least three years. The amount combined with the ecological bonus can ultimately reach 13,000 euros for a new electric car. The government’s offer suggests rents of 100 euros or less, but they can go up to 150 euros for large vehicles, such as family models.

With My Electric Leasing, it is possible to subscribe to a rental for a period greater than or equal to three, whether with or without a purchase option. Another advantage: there is no necessary contribution, beyond the maximum monthly payments (150 euros), and excluding compulsory insurance and maintenance, obviously.

Reservations for electric cars at 100 euros per month will be open at the start of the year, but the first deliveries will not take place until spring 2024.

In practice, how does it work?

To benefit from the system, you must reserve your car with approved rental companies. The site mon-leasing-electrique.gouv.fr contains the list of rental companies authorized to lend vehicles. The recovery of the vehicle is done as for any other vehicle.

At the end of the contract, you must return the vehicle, but you can also become its owner if you buy back its residual value. If the initial contract is with a purchase option, the repurchase value of the vehicle is defined upon conclusion of the contract. In the case of a contract without a purchase option, the repurchase value of the car is not defined in advance, and the rental company is obviously not obliged to transfer ownership of the vehicle to you if you ask for it. Generally, this second case ends with the return of the machine.

The rental contract for My electric leasing provides for a minimum of 12,000 kilometers per year, please note. Any excess may result in additional charges.

The contract: all the questions you ask yourself

The price: you understand, it cannot exceed 150 euros per month. Remember that this amount does not include that of car insurance, which you will have to take out on your own. Note that you are free to choose your insurer, there is no problem on that.

The minimum contract duration is 3 years. This is a minimum, rental companies can offer you contracts for a longer period.

Concerning termination, the conditions are identical to those of a traditional rental contract. You will thus be liable for the remaining monthly payments. However, there are exceptions, such as death, disability or loss of employment. As for the withdrawal period, this is in accordance with the law, namely 14 calendar days from the signing of the contract. If this is the case, you will be refunded any payment made.

The State platform will be available and active from 1er January 2024, at the following address: mon-leasing-electrique.gouv.fr.
