The meinimpfungen foundation, which kept the electronic vaccination booklet, is history. Because of the lack of financial resources, the board of trustees applied for the foundation to be liquidated, the platform announced on Tuesday. The data would be kept securely, but no longer processed.
In May the platform meinimpfungen.ch discontinued due to security vulnerabilities. At the end of March it became known that the 450,000 vaccination data on the platform – including 240,000 people vaccinated against Covid-19 – could be manipulated. As a result, the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) and the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (Edöb) became active. The platform was deactivated and proceedings against the operator were initiated.
Meineimpfungen.ch ceases operations
Patients have to look for themselves
What happens to the data must be clarified in consultation with the foundation supervisory authority, the BAG and the Edöb, writes the foundation. If no solution can be found, the data would remain inaccessible to users for the foreseeable future, at best permanently.
The foundation regrets very much that it can no longer offer the population a free electronic vaccination card. She hopes that the majority of users have kept their data and that the vaccination records are also stored in the documentation with the health professionals. She recommended that users contact the doctor who vaccinated them to have the vaccinations checked or completed.
Foundation for consumer protection active
From the point of view of the Foundation for Consumer Protection, the fact that the data stored on the platform is forever inaccessible is unacceptable. “The Federal Office of Public Health and the FMH and pharmasuisse associations, which meinimpfungen.ch financed, advertised and supported on the board of trustees for many years, must not shirk their responsibility.” The foundation wants to examine legal or political steps.
