On February 10, the new media chronology comes into force in France, and Canal+ is rubbing its hands. With its new six-month window, the encrypted channel is able to offer, from this month, several films as recent as expected by subscribers. At the top of the list, North ferry and Annette, two well-known feature films when they were released last summer. But we also expect more intimate productions such as Onoda, 10,000 nights in the jungle, The Cloud or Bernadette has disappeared.

On the series side, at the end of the month we will witness the great return ofUFO(s), a very successful original Canal+ creation with Melvil Poupaud. We can also discover the new British series Ridley Roadas well as the last seasons of Starstruck and Snowfall.

Event of the month: North ferry and AnnetteFebruary 18 and 24

The event of the month on Canal+, without a doubt, is the new window negotiated by the encrypted channel as part of the new media chronology. Subscribers will be able to discover the films just six months after their theatrical release. And it’s off to a flying start with two feature films that have been talked about a lot, not really for the same reasons. On the one hand, we have the muscle North ferrythriller under high tension in the heart of the northern districts of Marseille, as hailed for its efficiency and explosiveness as it is criticized for a message that can be perceived as extremely negative with regard to the suburbs.

On the other, we have Annette, musical comedy with dramatic accents carried by Adam Driver, Marion Cotillard and the music of the Sparks. For many critics, Leos Carax’s film is one of the best of 2021. It is true that its flamboyant staging impresses, with its mind-boggling sequence shots and camera movements that come out of nowhere. On the other hand, let us recall that it is a work almost entirely sung, allergic to musicals abstain, therefore.

We are curious: UFO(s)season 2, from February 21

A real success when it was released last year, season 1 ofUFO(s) will be entitled to a sequel in February. We always find the impeccable Melvil Poupaud at the head of Gépan, responsible for studying supernatural phenomena on French territory. After a last episode rich in surprises, we can’t wait to go back to the 70s in the company of these completely crazy characters, especially since the reconstruction of the time is stunning. Proof, if necessary, that France always knows how to produce very good series.

We will (re) see with pleasure: Onoda, 10,000 nights in the jungleFebruary 20

Released quite confidentially during the summer of 2021, this fascinating mural tells the true story of Hirō Onoda, a Japanese army soldier sent to the island of Lubang, in the Philippines, at the end of World War II. Having been instructed to defend the territory until someone comes for him, Onoda will remain in office long after the end of the planetary conflict, continuing his guerrilla techniques in the company of a handful of devoted men, without knowing that the rest of the world is at peace. Lasting 2 hours 45 minutes, the feature film immerses us in the psyche of a man driven little by little mad by his rigor and his devotion to the Japanese flag. Despite filming in Cambodia entirely in Japanese, we owe the screenplay and production to a Frenchman, Arthur Hanari.
