Her wife suspected of having cervical cancer

Before Christmas, Nadine Angerer and her wife Magdalena were confronted with a terrifying diagnosis: suspected cancer.
Former DFB goalkeeper Nadine Angerer (42) is currently taking part in the VOX program "Showtime of my Life – Stars Against Cancer" in order to make people aware of necessary preventive medical checkups. And just such a visit to the doctor seems to have saved her own happiness. As the former world footballer tells in the "Bild am Sonntag", while filming the show, her wife Magdalena was diagnosed with a dangerous precursor of cervical cancer.
"At the beginning of December I urged Magdalena to investigate," reports Angerer. She thought that you couldn't go to a show like this and not get checked out for yourself. Magdalena herself confirms the findings: "A few days after the smear at the gynecologist I had a message from the practice on my cell phone: 'Please call me back urgently!'" She immediately knew "that they don't want to wish you a Merry Christmas".
Ticking time bomb: It was about weeks
The smear was more than conspicuous and thus the suspicion of cervical cancer was in the room: "Two types of virus were found that would very soon have led to cancer." Since it was on Fuerteventura at that time, the couple was already on the plane back to Germany a day later. Magdalena immediately removed the damaged tissue with the help of a laser: "I had a ticking time bomb in my abdomen."
If this had not been recognized and she had not been operated on, it could have turned out badly, says the ex-athlete's wife: "It took weeks. I was lucky, many guardian angels and this great wife who urged me to be examined."
Even after the operation, she could still have children, although with Angerer she had actually already decided to be happy without children. "But my illness rekindled our thoughts," says Magdalena. She would have found it unfair if the cancer and not herself had decided that she would not have children.
