Grammy-winning folk and country singer Nanci Griffith has died, her management confirmed. She was 68 years old.

Texas-born singer and songwriter Nanci Griffith has died at the age of 68. That reports, among other things, “Entertainment Weekly” citing the artist’s management. No cause of death is known. “It was Nanci’s wish that there should be no further statement or press release for a week after her death,” a statement said.

The folk and country singer’s career began in the late 1970s with the release of her debut album “There’s a Light Beyond These Woods”. Griffith was nominated four times for a Grammy and won the major music award with “Other Voices / Other Rooms” (1993) for the best contemporary folk album.

Grief on social media

Country singer Suzy Bogguss (64) reminded of Griffith on Instagram: “I feel blessed to have many memories of our time together, along with almost everything that she has ever recorded.”

Musician Darius Rucker (55) explained on social media: “I lost one of my idols.” Griffith had inspired him: “Singing with her was my favorite pastime.”
