NCIS: a nod to Gibbs in the spin-off NCIS Hawai’i

Ahead of the broadcast of the NCIS crossover and its spin-off on March 28, the episode of “NCIS: Hawai’i” broadcast last night on CBS revealed the link between Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and the young rookie Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey).

While the CBS channel concocted a special episode for NCIS fans in the form of a crossover with its latest spinoff, NCIS: Hawai’i, broadcast on March 28, viewers were able to discover, in the new episode offered yesterday evening in the United States, what role had played Gibbs (Mark Hamon) in the evolution of the career of Jane Tennant, the heroine of the series played by Vanessa Lachey.

Indeed, during episode 13 of season 1, entitled “Spies – Part 2”, the team investigates a former CIA agent, Maggie Shaw, suspected of having helped a Chinese spy when he was hiding in Hawai’i. However, this one also turns out to be Jane’s former mentor.

Through a series of flashbacks retracing Jane’s recruitment by Maggie and the training she put her through eleven years earlier, we learn that Maggie (played by Julie White) has been redeployed to another division in the Middle East in along the way, leaving his young apprentice to fend for herself.

But just before she leaves, Maggie slips Jane a business card, asking if she remembers the NCIS agent who worked with them on an operation in Kabul. As Jane nods, stating to remember “of a man with a crew cut and his sly sidekick“(referring to her ex-partner Tony DiNozzo played by Michael Weatherly), Maggie replies that she had made a strong impression on him, to the point that the agent in question tries to recruit her.

She then hands Jane the business card, revealing the name of Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Turning the card over, Jane discovers a handwritten inscription: “Rule 72: Always be open to new ideas.

Intrigued, Jane then asks her mentor for the meaning of this word, to which Maggie replies that she has no idea because Gibbs is accustomed to this kind of rules of his own. She assures him, however, that he is a good agent, and that he can help her settle into the training center for federal agents.

A sequence in the form of a wink which thus explains to the public how Jane Tennant joined the NCIS: thanks to a boost from Gibbs.

Still unpublished in France, NCIS: Hawai’i successfully launched in the United States in September 2021 with 6.5 million viewers gathered in front of its pilot, which enabled the CBS channel to order a full season of this fourth spinoff. from NCIS.
