NetEase Games acquires SkyBox Labs (Halo Infinite, Minecraft, Fallout 76)

You probably don’t know the name of SkyBox Labs, but you know his games. The Canadian studio, based in Burnaby and Victoria, has participated in the development of several titles for Xbox Game Studios, Wizards of the Coast or Electronic Arts since its creation in 2011, and it has just been redeemed.

It is NetEase Gamesthe Chinese giant, which has just offered SkyBox Labs at the start of 2023. The Canadian studio will be able to continue working with its previous external partners and even with new ones, the three co-founders Shyang Kong, Derek MacNeil and Steven Silvester will retain the management of operations, but NetEase will provide the studio its tools and resources to enable SkyBox Labs to evolve.

SkyBox Labs is best known for developing the new versions of the games Ages of Empires II and Age of Mythology with Forgotten Empiresbut he also participated in the development of titles like Halo Infinite (343 Industries), Minecraft (Mojang Studios), or Fallout 76 (Bethesda Softworks), available at €35.99 on Gamesplanet.

This shouldn’t change much for the studio, let alone gamers, but it’s clear that the Chinese giants are always a little more interested in the international market. NetEase Games has offered itself in recent years Quantic Dream, Grasshopper Manufactory or the services of Toshihiro Nagoshi and Daisuke Sato (Yakuza) to found Nagoshi Studio.
