Amazon announced on Tuesday July 26 an increase in the price of its subscription to its Prime service. We compared the prices of subscriptions to SVOD platforms to determine which offer is the cheapest.
A thunderclap for the regulars of the SVOD. Tuesday, July 26, Prime Video, the giant Amazon’s streaming platform, announced a major change to its subscribers. The price of their subscription will increase from September 15, 2022. The monthly subscription will increase from €5.99 to €6.99 and the annual Prime subscription will increase from €49 to €69.90. A new hole in the wallet for subscribers as inflation rages and the purchasing power of the French is already significantly impacted. Amazon justified this change by explaining that it was related “to the increase in operating costs in France”.
Following the announcement of the increase in Prime’s prices, subscribers and Internet users have largely expressed their dissatisfaction. And this while Netflix, for its part, plays the same score by wanting to make its subscribers pay for account sharing or by offering advertising to certain subscribers in return for a reduction in the cost of the subscription. Netflix, Prime, Disney +, myCanal, Salto: what is the cheapest SVOD subscription?
The French have several SVOD offers available. Between Netflix, Salto, Disney +, myCanal or Prime Video, many catalogs are available to them. While some monthly rates may seem affordable, they constitute a substantial annual budget. If we exclude any catalog comparison and taking the cheapest subscription offered by each platform, the SVOD service that offers the cheapest offer remains Prime Video. In effect :
- netflix offers a monthly subscription at €8.99 for its first price. The total annual budget is 107,88€. The total annual price of the Netflix subscription can be increased to €98.89 if you benefit from the free month for a first registration, the first year.
- myCanal offers a monthly offer at €20.99. The annual price of the myCanal subscription is increased to 251,88€. And this for the first year only since the amount of the subscription increases to €30.99 monthly after 12 months. An annual total of €371.88.
- somersault offers a monthly subscription at €6.99. Salto’s annual rate is therefore 83.88€. And €76.89 the first year if you benefit from the first month free.
- Disney+ offers a monthly subscription at €8.99 and an annual rate of 89,90€.
- Prime offers a monthly subscription at €6.99 and an annual subscription at 69.90€.
Despite the increase in its prices, Amazon therefore offers a cheaper offer than its competitors.
