The phenomenon Money Heist is back on Netflix…well, almost! Subscribers will find The Professor, Tokyo, Rio, Berlin, Denver and the others not in Spain but in Korea. As of today, the American giant has put online the first season of Money Heist Korea: Joint Economic Areathe Korean remake of La Casa de Papel.
For 5 seasons, the French public and the rest of the world have been able to follow the best heist ever carried out within the National Currency and Stamp Factory in Spain, then another within the Bank of Spain afterwards with the parts ordered by Netflix due to the global success of the Iberian series.
It is therefore not surprising that the platform capitalizes on this goose that lays the golden egg to draw a remake, South Korean moreover, to surf on another global success, namely Squid Game. Directed by Kim Hong-sun and scripted by Ryu Yong-jae, Money Heist Korea tells how a group of thugs led by the Professor will try to carry out the heist of History at the Money Factory located in a common economic zone supposed to reconcile the two Koreas.
Should you have seen La Casa de Papel before Money Heist Korea?
Fans who have already seen La Casa de Papel will already have all the keys, information and answers to the many twists and turns that occur in Money Heist Korea since the South Korean remake takes up exactly the same plot as the Iberian series with the same characters in the same city names.

The geopolitical context inherent in the two Koreas brings some differences and subtleties to the main plot and the personal stories of the characters. These additions and modifications are obviously welcome to differentiate themselves from the original version.
It remains to be seen whether fans of La Casa de Papel will want to see the same story again, even if we invite them to take a look at this revisit. As for those who have never watched La Casa de Papel, this new series would be a good opportunity to immerse themselves in the phenomenon with a completely new eye and a different vision and culture.
