Julio Iglesias, the father of Enrique Iglesias, began his life in a completely different discipline than music. He was a youth goalkeeper for Real Madrid football club. He alternated his football career with law studies, hesitating between becoming a professional footballer or a diplomat like an uncle and a cousin, ambassador to London.

But in 1962, Julio Iglesias had a serious car accident which ended his career as a high-level athlete and his law studies (which he would resume 30 years later!). He was paralyzed from the waist down for a year and a half.
