This Japanese animated series is currently a hit on Netflix in France. But you will have to be patient before discovering the rest…

A Japanese animated series appears this week in the ranking of the most viewed series on Netflix. This is Kengan Ashura, adapted from the eponymous manga written by Yabako Sandrovich and drawn by Daromeon (available in 27 volumes from the publisher Meian).

In sixth position in the Top 10 in France, the series is currently the fourth most watched series in the world on the platform (totaling 11.7 million hours of viewing). It is notably in the Top 10 of countries such as Morocco, India, Mexico, Chile, Taiwan and of course Japan.

This fighting series reserved for an adult audience takes place in a world similar to ours, where there is an ancestral martial arts tournament allowing the biggest companies to conduct their business secretly. During these limitless fights, each company designates its champion responsible for facing that of its rival.

More specifically, the series follows the journey of Ohma Tokita, a young fighter with an intriguing past. The latter is chaperoned by Kazuo Yamashita, a salaryman propelled in spite of himself into this bloody universe and whose future in the Kegan company which employs him depends only on the victorious results of his foal.

Kengan vs Baki

Kengan Ashura is sometimes compared to Baki, another anime produced by Netflix, for their uninhibited violence, their fights between various martial arts but also because the two series have in common that they feature an organization of clandestine confrontations.

A banner bringing together the heroes of the two programs was also produced by the platform.

The difference between the two series, however, lies in the attention paid to character and plot development in Kengan Ashura. Let’s also highlight the better animation quality of this anime, although its CGI graphics may not be to everyone’s taste.

Many fans nevertheless agree to praise the quality of the staging of Kengan Ashura’s fights, and the addictive aspect of the program broadcast on Netflix in bursts of half-seasons of twelve episodes.

While the first part of season 2 of the anime was revealed on September 21, we will unfortunately have to wait until sometime in 2024 to discover the second part on the platform.

A wait considered unbearable for fans, especially since four years had already separated the broadcast of seasons 1 and 2. But there is no doubt that they will be there as soon as Netflix is ready to broadcast the twelve new episodes of its new hit Japanese anime!

“I literally binged the new season of Kengan Ashura in 3 hours… And now what do I do? I wait until 2024.”

The Kengan Ashura series can now be found exclusively on Netflix.
