Netflix: this 2nd best series is to catch up on if you like ghost stories!

With Lockwood and co, Netflix adapts a new successful literary saga into a TV series. And subscribers responded.

What is it about ?

In a world overrun by ghosts who can incapacitate and even kill their victims, people with the gift of seeing or hearing ghosts are recruited into ghost hunting agencies. Particularly gifted, Lucy hears ghosts perfectly, but has not completed her training. The young Anthony Lockwood agrees to hire him in the agency he has with George, and which has the particularity of not including any adults.

Your future new obsession

While waiting for the return to our screens next March of Shadow & Bone, another adaptation of a fantastic literary saga, Netflix posted Lockwood and co online a few days ago. A name that may mean nothing to you and yet the five books that contain the saga written by Jonathan Stroud have sold millions of copies worldwide.

If several production companies have felt the good vein by buying the adaptation rights, it is Netflix who has recovered the broadcasting rights. And the bet is successful since in the space of a few days, Lockwood and co has climbed into the top 10 of the most watched series in France and around the world (6th internationally).

It must be said that it is particularly successful, on the condition that you like the series of ghosts rather family and general public. So many people compare it to Stranger Things and Locke and Key for this, Lockwood and co still stands out with its London settings straight out of the 80s, its pos-punk music and the sub-genre in which it falls. tidied up. The spectator accompanies the three heroes through investigations into the past, thanks to the gift of Lucy (played by Ruby Stokes) which allows him to be in direct contact with the specters.

This uchronic world imagined by Jonathan Stroud hides many mysteries which are at the heart of the first season of 8 episodes. What won over viewers, as evidenced by these reviews found on the AlloCiné page of the series:

Excellent series, not just for teenagers contrary to what is said. It’s a nice mix of action and fantasy. The scenario is well put together, we do not get bored for a moment. And for once, I don’t have this unpleasant feeling that some episodes are there to fill in.”

I knew the books (which by the way I highly recommend) and I’m not disappointed. I want more!! The rather complex main characters are very endearing.

I just finished the series. I don’t know books so I wasn’t expecting much and I was rather pleasantly surprised. I don’t understand the criticisms on the scenario, it changes post apo worlds, zombies, SF….. Here we are dealing with ghosts but not to stuff ourselves with them and I think it changes.”

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting such a gem. Scenario not very elaborate but good when you see series such as “Élite” which are renewed each year “Lockwood and Co” is well above. We just hope it doesn’t get canceled as “1899”.

The first season of Lockwood and co adapts the first two novels of the literary saga. If the success is confirmed, Netflix should logically renew it for a season 2.
