Netflix: this surprise film is a hit and it is only for the most daring!

After the success of “Troll”, Norway continues to unearth its myths with “Viking Wolf”, a thriller that uses the codes of the werewolf film.

Released last December, the Norwegian blockbuster Troll, a funny mix between King Kong and Godzilla, has become Netflix’s most watched non-English language film. On this great momentum, Viking Wolf, a novelty online since this Friday, February 3, offers on its return a breathless film on the theme, this time, of werewolves.

The story begins thousands of years ago, in the time of the Vikings. While plundering Normandy, Scandinavian warriors discover a secret door in the heart of an abbey and come across “a hound from hell”. The creature follows them aboard their ship before reaching the lands of Norway.

The plot continues to the present day. Thale, a teenager freshly arrived in a new town, witnesses a terrible attack in the woods. The authorities first think of the work of a wolf, but the reality is far more terrifying. Thale, for her part, seems to have been contaminated by the monster.

After a release in Norwegian cinemas last November, Viking Wolf is coming to Netflix in France. The feature film moves away from the great spectacle of Troll to prefer a much darker and more intimate atmosphere. The horror is there, with some splashes of blood of course, but it’s mostly a real werewolf movie.

We find there all the usual codes: the full moon, the silver bullets, contaminated people and above all a scene of transformation which does not completely yield to digital effects. Viking Wolf does not come close to Werewolf of London or Howls, two classics of the genre to (re) discover as soon as possible, but manages to have its small effect for a successful night session.

Viking Wolf is available on Netflix.
