New Corona Protection Ordinance: Saxony wants more 2G faster

New Corona Protection Ordinance
Saxony wants more 2G faster

As expected, Saxony wants to rely more on the 2G model. In the fight against the rising corona numbers, the catering industry in particular should only let in those who have recovered and who have been vaccinated. Similar considerations are also being made at the federal level.

In view of the increasing corona numbers, unvaccinated people in Saxony are facing more severe restrictions. The black-red-green government wants to introduce the 2G rule nationwide in certain areas such as indoor catering, as a spokesman for the Ministry of Social Affairs said in Dresden. This is the key points for the new Corona Protection Ordinance, which will be finally discussed on Friday and will come into force on Monday. Some see 2G as the lockdown for the unvaccinated.

In addition to indoor catering, only those who have been vaccinated and recovered should have access to indoor events and celebrations in the cultural and leisure area, in discos and bars. The same should also apply to major events such as concerts and football games. At the federal level, too, there are considerations about stronger measures against unvaccinated people.

Saxony’s Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer had already declared last week that 2G was “now an absolute must”. Kretschmer himself is in quarantine at home because of a corona case in the family environment. During an online discussion with representatives of important social groups in Saxony, he warned on Monday of incidences of 1000 and more. The seven-day incidence is currently 284.4. Across Germany it is 153.7. One still has the possibility to intervene, so the CDU politician.

So far, 2G – admission only for vaccinated and convalescent people – has been an option model in Saxony. Children and adolescents as well as people who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons should therefore continue to be exempt from a more stringent 2G regulation. Saxony is the first federal state that wants to make 2G mandatory for certain areas. In the other federal states this is only an option. In Baden-Württemberg, 2G can become mandatory as part of the step-by-step plan for corona measures. The hurdles are much higher than in Saxony.

According to the ministry, the introduction of an FFP2 mask requirement in local public transport is also being discussed. So far, medical mouth and nose protection has been sufficient there. Saxony is at the bottom of the nationwide corona vaccination rate. According to the Robert Koch Institute, 59 percent of people in the Free State are currently vaccinated once and 56.8 percent twice. Nationwide, 66.7 percent are fully vaccinated.
