MINI is preparing for its all-electric future with the new MINI Countryman manufactured at the BMW Group plant in Leipzig.
This is the first time that a MINI model will be produced entirely in Germany.
An electric MINI Countryman made in Germany
The BMW Group today confirms the production of the new electric MINI Countryman, which will roll off the production line in Leipzig from the end of this year. The German firm indicates in passing that one in five MINI models is already electrified, which testifies to the enthusiasm of the brand’s fans for this zero-emission driving.
” As the brand’s largest model, the all-electric MINI Countryman leads the new MINI family into an era of locally emission-free electromobility “, explains the manufacturer.
The new MINI Countryman will be produced on the production line in Leipzig, together with the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé and BMW 2 Series Active Tourer.
Two versions for the future electric MINI Countryman
We already know that this electric MINI Countryman will be offered in two distinct versions, with a 40 or 54 kWh battery. For comparison, the current MINI Cooper SE has to make do with a 32.6 kWh battery.
The 40kWh battery-equipped version will retain the same 181hp/135kW motor as the current Cooper SE, while the new 54kWh battery will increase output to 215hp/160kW. As for autonomy, it should be around 300 and 400 kilometers (WLTP), depending on the version chosen.
Already committed to the fight for sustainability, MINI indicates that within its factory in Leipzig, part of the energy necessary for automobile production can be produced by four wind turbines 190 meters high, directly on the site of the ‘factory. In 2021, 21.9 GWh of electricity was produced from wind energy. From 2030, MINI will be a 100% electric brand.
