Apple wants to make its next Mac mini a lot more powerful after all. The original plans are off the table, an insider claims. The upcoming models should be equipped with the powerful M2 and M2 Pro chips. It could be released in 2022.
Apple: Next Mac Mini with M2 and M2 Pro
According to Mark Gurman and his Bloomberg “Power On” newsletter, Apple has its Changed plans around Mac mini. So far it was assumed that the next generation will be equipped with Apple’s M1 Pro chip. The well-informed insider reports that a rethink has taken place at the group.
Instead of an M1 Pro, the next models should have a M2 or M2 Pro provide the necessary performance. The current Mac mini, which went on sale in November 2020, still has an M1 installed. The Mac mini in Space Gray, on the other hand, still uses an Intel processor from 2018.
While a leap in performance can be expected under the hood, everything should remain the same in terms of design. In the near future, according to Gurman in his newsletter Don’t expect a “big redesign”. (Source: Bloomberg). Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also doesn’t assume that Apple will reinvent the wheel with the next model.
After Mac Studio: Apple’s time for a Mac mini
With the Mac Studio in March 2022, Apple had a big, drilled Mac mini presented together with a studio display. Either the M1 Max or the M1 Ultra is available as a processor. So now might be the time at Apple to refresh the original model. The new Mac mini with M2 and M2 Pro chips may come later this year.
