Seven days of quarantine instead of ten – this is now also possible in Switzerland. The Federal Office of Public Health has now recommended this measure to all cantons.

  • The FOPH recommends shortening the quarantine period from ten to seven days.

  • The cantons could implement this measure independently.

  • There are exceptions, among other things, for people who have received a booster vaccination.

According to “Blick”, the federal government has given the cantons the green light to shorten the quarantine period. The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) informed the cantons of this in a letter that the newspaper had received. The BAG recommends shortening the quarantine period from ten to seven days.

“The quarantine strategy must be adapted quickly in order to mitigate its effects on society,” it says in the letter. According to the BAG, an amendment to an ordinance is being planned for this. But that requires a decision by the Federal Council – and there is simply not enough time.

Exceptions are possible

Now only people who have had close contact with a person who tested positive or who live in the same household as this person should stay at home. Exceptions are planned for vaccinated people who have received a booster, and also for people whose second vaccination was less than four months ago.

The regulation would mean that the cantons could decide on this measure themselves – if they first notify the federal government of the change. People who received a positive corona test themselves would not be affected by the regulation. As before, you would have to stay at home for ten days.
