New rental stations – instead of cars, take the train and bike to leisure

A pilot project will start next weekend in Kufstein, Wörgl and Matrei, which is intended to initiate nothing less than a change in tourism mobility. The basic idea: Instead of driving your own car with a bike in your luggage, you should travel by train. A state-of-the-art bike rental service is then waiting at the station.

Take the public transport to the bike rental, choose your bike, start your bike tour, conveniently return the bike to the nearest rental location and take the public transport home: this is Bike Tirol, the new bike rental system in Tirol.

LHStv. Felipe: Holistic concept
“A holistic concept in which the athletes can travel directly to the bike rental station by public transport and pursue their leisure time in an uncomplicated manner. In this way, locals and guests alike can enjoy the bike excursion or mountain bike tour with modern, high-quality bicycles without having to rely on the car, ”explains LHStv. Ingrid Felipe. “With this new leisure offer, a further step has been taken towards the turnaround in tourism mobility.”

Interested parties need an app and credit card
The first three bike rental locations in Kufstein, Wörgl and Matrei am Brenner – each in the immediate vicinity of the train station – will begin operations next weekend. From 2022, the project is to be rolled out gradually to a comprehensive system in Tyrol and later throughout Austria.

Bikes in three sizes
There is a choice of e-bikes and normal mountain bikes in three sizes at prices between 36 and 45 euros per day. In addition to an app, a credit card is required. The state’s project partners are Inn-Bike, ÖBB, Verkehrsverbund Tirol, Tirol Werbung and Communalp.
