New trouble for Bayern star
Unvaccinated Kimmich is not allowed in the team hotel
Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry, Jamal Musiala and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting have left the quarantine. But the quartet from Bayern Munich is facing new vaccination problems. Before the Bundesliga game at FC Augsburg, you are not allowed to go to the team hotel. The reason: the 2G rule that applies in Bavaria.
Further trouble for Joshua Kimmich and three other Bayern stars. Although the Bayern Munich midfielder has now been allowed to quarantine, his vaccination status does not allow him and his teammates Serge Gnabry, Jamal Musiala and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting to join forces with FC Augsburg before the game, according to the “Bild” newspaper to move into the team hotel for the rest of the team.
The reason for this is the 2G rule for restaurants and hotels in Bavaria. “There is no exception rule. Only vaccinated or convalescent people are allowed into the house”, an employee of the “Maximilian’s” hotel confirmed the applicable regulations to the “Bild”.
The Bayern players were allowed to leave their quarantine on Monday after a negative PCR test. While Gnabry and Musiala took part in a training session on Tuesday, Kimmich missed it due to a private appointment and Choupo-Moting played for 18 minutes in Cameroon’s 1-0 win in the World Cup qualifier against Ivory Coast. The green light had already been given for him on Sunday.
Süle continues in isolation
Niklas Süle, whose positive corona test led to the quarantine for the Bayern stars, is still stuck in isolation. According to media reports, the national player has slight symptoms and will therefore be absent from the Bundesliga game in Augsburg on Friday. Kimmich, who recently revealed that he had not yet been vaccinated against the corona virus, Gnabry, Musiala, Choupo-Moting and Salzburg striker Karim Adeyemi had to isolate themselves as close contacts to Süle.
Although the 2G regulation will apply to the spectators in the Augsburg stadium during the game against Bayern, the unvaccinated Bayern stars are allowed to participate in the Bundesliga game. The participation of the players falls within the area of occupational safety. The regulation does not apply there.
Söder calls for a mandatory vaccination
However, Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder brought an obligation for athletes into play on Monday in an interview with ntv. “Does it make sense to operate with this number of spectators and at the same time have players who have so far refused to be vaccinated?” Asked the 54-year-old and added: “We need a compulsory vaccination for athletes, if the spectators accordingly to have.”
Lately there had been a lot of stir about Kimmich when he had expressed concerns about a vaccination, which had been refuted by science. The subsequent debate escalated to the federal government and is symbolic of the conflicts in the fourth wave of the pandemic.
